What is Rumination?

Rumination is when your mind gets stuck in a cycle of repetitively thinking about something, mostly negative thoughts.

People will only focus on their negative feelings, making problems feel bigger than they are. This can lead to the development of depression and anxiety. 

Signs you have fallen into rumination:

  • Replaying the same thoughts

  • Feeling worse instead of better

  • Not accepting or moving on

  • Not finding a reasonable solution to your problem

  • Difficulty letting things go

Ways to Break the Cycle

• Change your environment

• Move your body

• Write down one action step

• Distract yourself with something positive
